Margaret H. Wire, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Born July 12, 1924 in Akron, Ohio, she was a First Generation American and daughter of the late Lawrence and Aranka (Kiss) Huszar. A graduate of Kenmore High School of which her school spirit showed throughout her life. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband James J. Szoke with whom she built a beautiful family.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, James L. Szoke, and wife Janice, of Downingtown, PA; Patty A. Campbell, of Harrisburg, PA; Kathryn M. Hartz, of Harrisburg, PA; and Mary Anne Gill, and husband John, of Lewisberry, PA. In addition to her children she is survived by her grandchildren Matthew Szoke and wife Ellen, Michael Szoke and wife Kristin, Patrick Szoke and wife Bettina, Joseph Campbell and wife Neity, John Campbell, Jimmy Campbell, Kristine Hartz, Lauren Simpson and husband Kyle, Michelle Palmer and husband John, Tim Gill and wife Jenn, and Andrew Gill. Margaret was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece ,Christine Lynch, and nephews, Joseph and Paul Huszar. Margaret was also preceded in death by her second husband Ralph W. Wire.
During WWII she was a Rosie the Riveter for a period of time, worked for EUR, and retired from Quaker Oats after working alongside her husband for many years. Margaret enjoyed many activities throughout her life, most important to her was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd since 1959 where she was a Girl Scout Leader and was a volunteer at Holy Spirit Hospital.
She enjoyed golfing and was a member of West Shore Country Club where she also participated in many years of fundraising for the Hospice of Central PA and volunteered for 10 years at the Lady Keystone Open. Margaret was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and playing bridge. She made many dear friends through these activities and reminisced fondly about each and every one.
Margaret’s family would like to extend a grateful thank you to Dr. Howard Cohen, the staff at Holy Spirit Hospital, Heartland Hospice, and Country Meadows for the compassionate care they gave her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:00 am at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 E. Trindle Rd., Camp Hill. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Rolling Green Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Margaret’s honor to Heartland Hospice, 1200 Walnut Bottom Rd, Suite 302, Carlisle, PA 17015 or to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
