Obituary

Shirley A. McKee, 86, of Camp Hill passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital.

Born on August 11, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Shirley was the daughter of the late Eugene and Catherine Ward and was preceded in death by twin great-granddaughters. The beloved wife of John J. McKee for 64 years, Shirley is also survived by three sons Mike (Connie), Tom (Mary), and Jim (Cheryle), and three daughters Kathy, Beth, and Terry Fitzgerald (John), as well as 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister Mary Kay Walsh of Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces and nephews.

She attended Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing, worked in various positions as a Registered Nurse, and retired from the Commonwealth of PA. She was an active member of the local community and Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Camp Hill. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, doing needlework and playing dominoes with her S&B group, and (most of all) conversing endlessly over the phone with family and friends.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Church of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 E. Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11:00 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am with Rev. Neil S. Sullivan as Celebrant. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, CMT, at cmtausa.org or PO Box 105, Glenolden, PA 19036; Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Mrs. McKee was my mom's best friend that she met when they were in the 2nd grade. We visited her and her family while they lived in Harrisburg and I have many wonderful memories of those visits. I was able to visit two more times in the past two years and Mrs. McKee was always smiling and it was so good to see her. May God bless the entire family and know that she loved you all so much. She sent me a picture of her, my mom and a few other "girls" from 1960 a while back. I will look for that at home and post it.... She's in God's hands now. Love, Laura

Please accept my most sincere sympathy for the death of your loved one. We can find comfort in the word of God because it assures us that "there is going to be a resurrection" (Acts 24:15).  God promises to give life back to millions of people who have died, and he desires to do so very soon.

We know this from what a servant of God from the past, Job, asked God: “If a man dies, can he live again?  I will wait all the days of my compulsory service (death) until my relief comes.   You (Jehovah) will call, and I (Job) will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands." (Job 14:14, 15) God is longing to give life back to those who have died.

Perhaps these words do not calm your pain but we are certain that God will resurrect all those who demonstrate faith in the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ. Reflecting on the divine promises found in the Bible will give you the hope and strength to keep going until all of God’s promises are fulfilled.  May these words bring you and your family much comfort from Jehovah God, the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1: 3, 4).
