Obituary

John F. West, 68, of Camp Hill, PA, passed away surrounded by his family, on Thursday August 29, 2019 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.

Born on June 12, 1951 in Natick, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Chauncey F. and Geraldine (Fecteau) West.

John was a graduate of Central York High School in York, PA. He went on to complete the Respiratory Therapy Program at York Hospital. John was retired from Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he was a Licensed Respiratory Therapist for 38 years. John was a big baseball fan and loyal supporter of the Boston Red Sox. He had a passion for Volvo cars and owned several in his lifetime. When he wasn’t spending time with his family and his loyal dog Karma, he enjoyed watching true crime shows, fishing, and golfing.

John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah A. Smith, of Camp Hill, PA; two daughters, Courtney L. West and her husband Jason Guillet, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Anna C. West and her husband Daniel Hauck, of Mechanicsburg, PA; four sisters, Marlene Wallace, of Massachusetts, Polly McDonald, of California, Janet Rockwell and her husband Murray, of Indiana, and Mary Jo Manifold and her husband David, of York, PA; and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an infant son, Evan F. West.

Debbie, Courtney and Anna,

My love and condolences and prayers go out to you at this difficult time with the passing of Johnny. I could never get past calling him Johnny. So many memories of him in Sherborn and in Pennsylvania spending many weeks during the Summer out there and so many nice Thanksgiving holidays together. Many many other nice times when we were all together in Massachusetts with big family cookouts in our backyard with all the cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents ! We always found a way for 10 or 11 of us to bunk down in our not so big home. Nobody ever complained !! And I so much enjoyed being at your weddings and the time together. He was a great guy and so much fun to be with. He will never be forgotten in our hearts and our thoughts and the memories will stay forever.

Deb & girls, We are so sad to hear of John's passing. Bruce and I will miss him greatly. John was such a kind soul, had a million dollar smile and his humor was off the charts. He was one of kind, so one of kind, he is the only person that I've known that won a pony as a child. That story always made me laugh and always will. May you find peace at this very difficult time. We will miss him dearly. f
